No More Fabric

What?! You might say, no more fabric? It is almost inconceivable. Limit buying fabric. Those words just don't look right in a sentence. I know, trust me I know. That is why my sewing room is flowing with fabric, but is there a point when enough is ...well enough?

It's a topic of dicussion among the bloggers : 502,000 discussion according to Google! So why do we do it? Why must we buy fabric in all colors, all styles, all patters, all designers? I don't know about you but I buy when it's cheap and when I like it - that is my only criteria and because of that my fabric stash has grown to the point where I don't have any more room for fabric (I should add in my sewing room, because I know there ladies out there with closets, garages, attics full of fabric)

So I am not going to buy anymore fabric (unless needed for a custom sewing order) and I even shook on it with my husband. It's sealed - it's a deal. And you know I feel good about it. It clears my mind to focus on the projects I've got going now -- and the ones I am going to start on using fabric from the stacks.

6 months, that's how long I committed to. It's going to be an interesting time, I am sure I will go through the stages of withdrawal and want to buy something/anything JUST GIVE ME A FAT-QUARTER! But then I'd have to tell the hubby and I just don't want to do that, lol!

Tell me your about your fabric hoarding...I'd love to hear!
Cheers,
Kelly

We had our house on the market for 2 years and needed to move due to my hubby's new job. Since I was living there alone, I needed to make it as easy as possible to show the house to potential buyers. I put myself on a new fabric moratorium, only buying if I needed it for backing a quilt or for a commission quilt. Well, now that we have sold the house and moved, I am trying to rebuild my stash. It wasn't really hard, I just focused on using what I had, and that meant moving less! It also helped me to learn to buy just what I need. After all, I am a quilter, not an "aquirer" or a fabric hoarder!

Oh my, you are brave! we might be able to pool together and do a stash busting joint celebration for the month of June?I'm sure Mike might appreciate me not buying fabric for a bit, esp after going to the quilt show yesterday! we could do a couple of tutorials on each others blogs? we could do a Flickr group? what do you think? anyway, just an idea.

I don't think I have nearly as much fabric as most, but I do have a nice little stash. I've put myself on a shopping ban for May so I could hit my savings goal & it's an expensive month for us. Good luck with your 6 month buying ban! I'd love to see pics of your ENTIRE stash! :P lol!!

But you choose really pretty things... as I sit across from a pile of fabric looking like it's getting ready to topple over at any moment. I too need to stop purchasing. But what about awesome sales??? ;-)

Is swapping allowed? That way you can get something new for nothing!

Oh nooooo...I could SO not do that! I put myself on a clothes-buying diet and made it 6 months, except for underwear and socks. But fabric? I don't think so! But best of luck to YOU! Heh, heh...I'll buy your share while you're on your diet ;-)

I tried this at the beginning of the year...but I only lasted maybe 6 weeks or so. I'm trying it again now, but I already saw a print that I just "have" to have. I think after I get this one, then it's on...mostly because I'm running out of room in the little bit of space that I do have. I am going to try to use up a bunch of my stash over the summer when I am on school summer break. I'll let you know how it goes :-)

I am totally with you on this!! I recently reorganized my fabric stash, made it all nice and pretty in its designated IKEA shelf, and then said I wouldn't buy fabric unless I needed it for a custom order. I've done pretty well...but just in the past couple weeks I started my Great Fabric Destash challenge, because was having trouble finding ways to USE the copious amounts of fabric I have. I'm having so much fun with it, doing a weekly giveaway of something I make to motivate me. I can actually see my stash shrinking! :-)
